Kyrgyzstan is now requiring for all citizens age 16 and older to submit biometric data for new passports. The citizens are highly skeptical and have resisted turning in their biometric data because of the increasingly authoritarian government and corruption of local law enforcement. On Facebook and other media platforms citizens are voicing their concerns worried that their information could be stolen and used for criminal activity. Citizens are concerned that the practice of biometric data could limit personal freedom and privacy. A number of countries warn that without biometric passports people will not be allowed to enter other countries. Kyrgyzstan is one of the last central Asian countries to require this type of passports. Relevant statistic: Kyrgyzstan population is 5.720 million (World Bank, 2013).
