Hocking Hills

IA by the Waterfall

Right behind the Toronto trip, the hike through Hocking Hills was one of my favorite events of the year. Not only was the trip the escape from campus needed, but it also gave me time to reflect on my year in IA and how far I’ve grown. Unlike the Toronto trip, where I was mostly getting to know many of my fellow scholars, the trip to Hocking Hills opened my eyes to how much we’ve grown as an IA community. Our scholars program is filled with many students of different backgrounds and interests, yet throughout the year we have all created a bond through our appreciation of the world and it’s cultures. Walking along the rock formations and through the trees provided me with a sense of contentment. I was surrounded by the all my unique friends simply enjoying the earth that we hold so much interest in, and the moment was memorable.

Artifacts – Sunrise

Sunrise

Attending 8 AM courses everyday of my first semester of college was no pleasant task. I’d get up (barely) early enough to shower, eat breakfast, and get my mind running. And everyday as I dragged my body out of bed, I was graced with the image of a rising sun, which I tried to never take for granted. Not only was the beautiful sky a wonder that was great to appreciate, but it reminded me that no matter what happens the sun will rise the next day and there will always be beauty in it. No matter how much I struggled on a math quiz and no matter how tired I was from staying up to study, moments like when I looked at the sky reminded me to keep searching for all the beauty within the chaos. As I progressed through my semester (and continue to progress), I have began to find these small beauties in things besides nature, such as the strength of my friendships, a growing sense of campus community, and even academic victories and improvements. I have learned to look for the little joys, which has helped immensley with the tough transition from high school to college. I’ll never forget that the sun will rise, time will pass, and I will push through.
