Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. Eat.Go.Do

In order to expand myself, I plan on doing a variety of things to open up new windows of perspective and influence myself in positive ways. I would like to travel to German Village to experience the food options there, as it is a place I have not yet visited and something I have not yet been exposed to. I would like to enjoy myself at a Columbus Blue Jackets game, immersing myself in the sportsmanship and pride of it all with some of my closest friends. Lastly, I would like to race in Columbus, whether that be a 5k or something more substantial, I want to feel the city like I did my home, by running through it and living and breathing with it.

About Me

8C6E3203-0BB8-4AF6-B066-6ACDF0F2CEAFMy full name is Emily Rose Hyslop. I am currently a first year at the Ohio State University, majoring in Neuroscience. Originally, I am from a small area about 40 minutes east of Cleveland – Chesterland, Ohio. Prior to OSU, I attended Notre Dame – Cathedral Latin School. While there, I made myself busy by doing gymnastics the first two years, and taking up running cross country and track the last two years. Additionally, I was a part of National Honors Society, a Student Ambassador, and occasionally worked with the Academic Decathlon Team. The summer after my sophomore year, I interned with the Cleveland Clinic as a research assistant, and am now currently employed with Hiram House Camp as a High Ropes Specialist. Here at Ohio State, I am involved as a Health Sciences Scholar, am a part of Make-A-Wish, and occasionally do things with the women’s fitness group, CHAARG. I am also currently working at the Ohio Union Market as a Student Assistant. I have high hopes for what next semester will bring and the opportunities that it will provide.

In my spare time (if I can find any), I am extremely passionate about running and trying to maintain my fitness. This is also a huge stress relief for me, and a way for me to take some time to myself. In the summer, I love spending time outside with my siblings. I have three younger ones, one brother who is 17, and two sisters, one who is 12 and the other who is 10. They’re a huge part of my life and I love spending time with them and taking time to maintain and build our relationship. This includes hiking together, baking, playing with our three dogs, or just enjoying each other’s company. Also, in my alone time, I love to read and write – outside as well. Mostly, I love anything outdoors, and try to spend as much as possible enjoying it while it lasts here in Ohio.
