Homework 6- Perspective Reading and Videos

1. I found it to be interesting that at the base of any of the landscapes or rooms created in the videos that they all start with rectangular shapes and straight lines.

2. I liked seeing how different the base lines of a room look between one and two point perspective.

3. In the video of the guy constructing a room in one point perspective I thought he explained it very well and I referred to this video several times when working on my project.

4. In the final video I loved how you can build an entire landscape of buildings just by starting with a few simple lines and then building detail gradually.

5. The first video gave a good overview of perspective in general and I liked all the examples used.

6. In the reading PDF I liked how they showed the difference perspective makes in looking at the same object from two different ways.

7. I enjoyed the page about errors in perspective drawing because when I first did my perspective sketches I missed the mark on a few lines and it really threw my drawings off balance.

Project 3- Still Life Tonal Drawing

For my still life I chose objects that somewhat have to do with me. My favorite stuffed animal, my favorite candle, my favorite album, an eyeshadow palette because I love makeup, and a book because I love to read. My favorite one is the stuffed animal but I also like the mirror part of the eyeshadow palette. I was inspired to include a mirror because of Delia Do’s blog.

Sketchbook Assignments Week 4- prompt #5

For my first sketch I chose a scene from my favorite movie, Little Miss Sunshine. This is a sad scene in the movie and I think this screenshot captures the heartbreaking emotion in the scene even though you can’t see their faces very well. The body language says so much, you can see Olive (the little girl) trying her best to comfort her older brother (Dwayne) and I think it’s a really heartfelt moment between siblings.

For my second sketch I chose an image from the movie Coraline. When I was younger this movie scared me but as I have aged I have grown to love this movie, mostly because I think the creation and art behind it is so incredible. I love how expressive Coraline and Wybie’s faces are in this screenshot even though they are made of clay.

Sketchbook Assignments Week 3- Prompt #1

I thought this prompt was the perfect opportunity to try out the colored pencils that came in our kit for this class. I drew a peach and a plum. In an attempt to make the plum a little more interesting I took a bite out of it to reveal the yellow inside.

Homework 5- GE Assignment Research

Instead of retyping what I had in my notes tab while I was searching for artists I just posted my list in the picture below. I had so much fun searching through literally every artist on the list, it was tough to just pick 7 favorites. I scrolled through the people with my dad and it was interesting to hear which ones spoke to him the most. My favorite by far was Yayoi Kusama. I adore everything about her work, especially the mushroom pieces because those are my favorite thing to doodle and I also thought her hair and the way she dresses were so creative. I wasn’t sure exactly how much to write about three out of the seven like the assignment said but I did read all about them from a couple websites. I also read about the other four from my list and several from the larger list because I thought it was all just so interesting.

Project 2- Trees in a Landscape

For this project I drew the tree below in my local park. This project was rather difficult for me just because part of me wanted to draw each individual leaf but instead I tried to focus on the tree as a whole and the overall shape of the tree. Although this project was a little tough for me I really love the way it has made me appreciate nature a little more. I noticed on my way home I was looking at all the trees a little differently and focusing on how I would draw them.

Homework 3- Contour Cubist Still Life Collage

I cut up the pieces from a previous exercise and placed them on the paper and leaving gaps which I then filled in. I tried to overlap a few of the pieces to make it a bit more interesting. The glue I used kind of bubbled underneath the pieces I glued on so it isn’t as smooth as I hoped.

Project 1- Still Life Contour Drawing

Here I have drawn a candle holder, a glass vase, a ceramic vase, and a lemon. Unfortunately, I chose pieces that are pretty flat in terms of texture so the drawing doesn’t have many lines in it but I really wanted to focus on the overall shape and not on shading like I did in the exercises before.
