To start my sketchbook assignments I thought I would begin with something that gave me a little bit of freedom. This prompt was to just start doodling and see where it goes. I began in the top left corner with some mushrooms (my favorite thing to doodle lately). I then saw the shape of the mushrooms looked a little like an eye so I kind of mixed the two. To me, the stem drooping from the pupils looked a little like tears so I sketched the silhouettes of two sad faces. Next, I drew a pair of lips which made me think of the XO. After that I wasn’t sure what direction to go in so I just drew a few hearts and then a broken one. The broken heart reminded me of butterfly wings so i drew a couple of butterflies which led me to the bee. Obviously, the bee needed some flowers so I sketched a few and finally ended with a few plants. I really liked this prompt, there was no pressure and the page ended up being filled with a bunch of things that somewhat connect.
For my second attempt at this prompt I was feeling a little stuck so I thought adding some color might be a good start. I began with the flowers in the top left which led me to the plants and then the hanging plant. I decided to put some cloud doodles to keep with the nature theme I had going. I then went for the tree and the leaves are actually made up of one continuous line, just like the flowers and the plants. That reminded me of the blind contours so I went for a one line face but tried to make it a little different. I ended with the rough sketch of a koi fish but I’m not too sure how I got there.
