The scope of our project is to spread the word about Barefoot College and highlight some of the wonderful experiences that people are having here. The college empowers people from all over to make a life for themselves by learning a new skill such as solar engineering or water pump installation. We believe that this college deserves to be known throughout the world and want our project to serve as a means to introduce people to Barefoot. The college is doing incredible projects and teaching illiterate people skills through innovative methods.
We believe this project is a necessity because many people, including all of us before this trip, had not heard of Barefoot College. With so many amazing programs at this college there should be widespread knowledge of its existence. They are making great strides in solar energy and even have the first fully solar electrified college. They also have many conservation efforts such as preserving water and using sustainable forms of energy. The four main ideologies of Barefoot College are alternative education, valuing traditional knowledge and skills, learning for self-reliance, and dissemination through equality, austerity, and collective decision-making.
