Project PB&J

Project PB&J is currently underway in the Baker East Rec Room! We have many volunteers helping us make sandwiches and snack packs for those in need.

MLK Day of Service

Humanities Scholars participated in Ohio State’s Annual MLK Day of Service event, leading two groups to different local Columbus organizations in need of some volunteer help. One group helped out at a Salvation Army sorting through some of the bulk donations they had recently received, while the other group of humanities scholars provided assistance at a local area nursing home. Humanities scholars participate in many community service events both through the university with other groups, as well as event planned and carried out solely by members.

A Taste of OSU

“Taste of OSU is an evening of cultural performances on stage, exhibits and food from around the world provided by more than 30 different international and ethnic clubs on campus.”

I went last year and was blown away by the dances I watched, variety and beauty of dress, and the pride as many community members came together over food. This year Taste of OSU will take place February 15th from 5-9pm in the Union.

Also, I’d highly suggest helping out at this event, whetherthrough a volunteer position or cultural student organization. I volunteered as a photographer and it became one of my favorite events of the year. Any time spent learning about the splendor of humanity and our shared world is always time well spent.

BuckeyeThon

BuckeyeThon was such an amazing experience I can’t suggest enough that you try it at least once. As the largest student run philanthropy in Ohio, we raised $1,603,437.49 for the kids at Nationwide last year. While making the $250 to attend the Dance Marathon seemed daunting, the sense of accomplishment and feeling of being a part of something larger than myself was so rewarding when I finally reached my goal. Meeting the families and seeing them run down the red carpet was moving. Plus, I had an absolute blast doing silent disco, gaga ball, raving, limbo, tutu making, giant Jenga, and more. Go Humanities Manatees & the Yellow Team!

Treat the Hungry

This is our signature fall service project where volunteers dress up and “trick-or-treat” for canned goods in a local neighborhood. All items collected will be donated to the Mid-Ohio Food Bank, and it’s a lot of fun!
