Welcome!

Hello! Whether you are here as a prospective member of the Humanities Scholars Program or you just want to find out more, welcome to our site! The Humanities Scholars Program is a 4-year program that celebrates and encourages discussions of literature, language, philosophy, history, culture and other humanities disciplines. Check out our calendar to see our upcoming events, take a look at our photo gallery to see our members at our previous events, and feel free to read some blog posts on various humanities-focused events that have gone on at OSU. You may be a humanities major, or love the liberal arts, or are just looking for ways to get involved on campus. No matter the reason, we are happy to have caught your interest! Welcome!

Baker Hall East

Baker Hall holds a special place in our hearts since every Humanities Scholar lives there their freshman year. Baker East will come to feel like a second home, a home base, or a safe zone for students. Living together helps strengthen the friendships made within our scholars community. Often upperclassman say that the friends they made here their first year are some of their closest to this day. On campus, Baker is known for its friendliness as students come together to beat the heat, play games, or study. The Baker East Rec Room is where Humanities Community meetings are held each month, along with other fun events like movie nights.

Our Program Director

Ben Fortman has been the Humanities Scholars Program Manager since the fall of 2009. Growing up just a short distance from the OSU campus in Columbus, Ben is a two time Ohio State University graduate, with degrees in Business Marketing and a Master’s in Business Administration.  Ben is a strong believer in the importance of the humanities and especially enjoys cultural learning, theater, and the arts.  In his free time, he enjoys traveling the world and spending time with his wife and two children.

Who We Are

The Humanities Scholars program is lead in association with Honors & Scholars and the College of Arts & Sciences. Open to students of any major, our scholars group fosters a diverse and tight knit community. Through engaging trips, service projects, and academic enrichments, students explore many themes within the Humanities.
