Welcome Week – ft your LC

Your LC members have been working hard to give a HUGE welcome to our #New2OSU and returning scholars. On the left, you can see Jordan who shared this picture of some scholars decorating doors in Baker Easter. In the middle is our fearless Food Tour group and on the right is a snapshot of the Humanities Cookout, set up by your LC. We work hard for YOU so never hesitate to reach out with suggestions or to even work with us to lead your own event. Our students have such diverse interests and brilliantly fun ideas – bring on the new year!

1st Year Retreat – 2019

At this year’s retreat I met so many fun and interesting people that got me pumped for the school year. We went to the ARC for some games including “this or that,” limbo, and conversation starters. Waffles or pancakes? Waffles. Who has the most embarrassing story? Miicah. We then got convocation t-shirts, met mentors, and ate some good food! What a day; freshman went on to the Honors & Scholars Launch then the Involvement Fair. I stopped by the fair to snag some free plants and meet friends. How was your first day of Welcome Week?

Project PB&J

Project PB&J is currently underway in the Baker East Rec Room! We have many volunteers helping us make sandwiches and snack packs for those in need.

Student Spotlight

4th year Humanities Scholar, Michael Bach, was featured in this week’s Honors & Scholars newsletter. In this article, he speaks highly of his time in Scholars, as well as his other involvements, which include Psychology Club, SMART Lab, and the Mortar Board Senior Honorary. After graduation he plans on working for the AmeriCorps City Year program in Columbus. Click the link to read the full article! We are so proud of all the amazing things our students are doing.

Piano by Brooke

“Im starting in my third semester as a music education student. My principal instrument is piano and I study with Prof. Glaser. I’ve studied works by Chopin, Beethoven, Bach, Ibert, and Mozart. Studying music can be touch but I love what I’m doing.” -Brooke

If you’re also into music, Baker East has a piano in the rec room and Baker West has practice rooms in the basement.

Community Meetings

Community meetings happen at the first Wednesday of every month in the BE Rec Room. One of my favorite things about them is that I get to see all my friends, especially those I haven’t seen in a while.

Other cool things that happen here are:

  • LC spotlights
  • Guest speakers
  • Notice of upcoming events
  • Community chat discussions
  • Ben Fortman (always a good time)

Baker Semi Formal

Open to all Baker Hall residents, including Humanities & Arts Scholars, this dance is a fun excuse to dress up, eat desserts, and party with friends. The past two years it’s taken place at The Vault downtown, with admission donations going to BuckeyeThon.
