Welcoming Spring Event – Pysanky Eggs (3/28/18)

Join us as Carol Snyder presents the age-old Ukrainian custom of Pysanky, a batik-like process for intricately decorating eggs for the upcoming Springtime/Easter season. Designs are drawn onto a raw egg surface with hot wax, and then dyed with brilliant colors. The process, symbols and colors, are an incredible story from the past and serves now as a ritual for the coming of spring. Carol continues this tradition from her father who learned from his Ukrainian mother. The annual task of preparing for Pysanky is a Lenten tradition and a sign that Easter and spring will soon be here.

Carol Snyder obtained her BFA in ceramics from the Columbus College of Art and Design in 1985. Her works have been included in national juried contemporary craft shows as well as national juried and invitational exhibitions. Most recently she received a fellowship for the Greater Columbus Arts Council’s Artist Exchange Program with Dresden, Germany. Look for her work to be included in the GCAC exhibition of fellowship recipients at the Columbus Museum of Art in the spring of 2018.

Medicine and the Arts is made possible through the generosity of the Ohio State University College of Medicine, the OSU College of Medicine Alumni Society, the OSU Wexner Center Service Board, the Medicine and the Arts Board at OSU, University Hospital East and the generous donors to the Medicine and the Arts Endowment Fund (#644807) through the OSU Foundation. A special thank you to Todd E. Tussing, DNP, RN, CENP, NEA-BC, Administrative Director for Nursing and Patient Care Services, for arranging this special event.
