Yijing recently presented her work “Disinfection and gene damage of nontuberculous mycobacteria by varying ultraviolet wavelengths” at the Midwest Microbiome Symposium hosted this year at The Ohio State University. She volunteered on the planning committee for the symposium.

- Water Luncheon Webinar Series sponsored by the Ohio Water Resources Center and the Water Management Association of Ohio on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 titled “Managing cyanobacteria and cyanotoxins
during and after water treatment“. - Webinar titled Small water disinfection systems: UV light & the role of women in remote communities co-hosted by the International Water Association and International Ultraviolet Association January 31, 2023 with her talk titled “Overcoming challenges of implementing UV technologies in small, rural water systems“.
Upcoming invited talks:
- The Ohio State University’s departmental CEGE CONNEXT webinar on February 8, 2023, sharing her perspective with practitioners and alumni on application of recent innovations in drinking water treatment.
- Dr. Hull will give an invited talk at the ICULTA conference in April 2023, which is jointly organized by the Advanced UV for Life Association and the Ferdinand-Braun-Institut, in cooperation with the International Ultraviolet Association titled “Wavelength specific UV disinfection to protect human health from microbial threats”

Congrats to latest graduate Emma van Dommelen after defending her MS thesis “Occurrence and Evaluation of Methods for Microcystins in Water Treatment Plant Residuals”! Emma will continue in her full time role as an Assistant Engineer at Hazen and Sawyer.
Poster presentation and congratulations- Sydney
Sydney Vitt presented her poster on UV disinfection of harmful algal bloom causing Planktothrix at the 2022 Autumn Undergraduate Research Festival. She defended her thesis on this subject and graduated in Autumn 2022…congratulations Sydney!
IUVA Americas 2022
The Water TEAM had a strong showing at IUVA Americas 2022 in Cincinnati, OH. Yijing, Dan, Judith, and Dr. Hull all gave presentations, we caught up with old colleagues and met new ones, and we even went on a riverboat cruise.

Daniel Ma gave a podium presentation on our AWaRE project “Measuring and Modeling Systems Factors That Impact Tap Water Quality and Public Perceptions of Drinking Water Systems: Pilot Study in Scioto County, Ohio” at the US EPA 19th Annual Drinking Water Workshop in Cincinnati, OH. Several other Buckeyes attended the conference.

This summer, Dr. Hull gave invited presentations on “Impacts of UV wavelengths during water treatment on microbes and their molecules” at ACS fall 2022 , “Novel technologies for disinfection of NTM laden water” at The Many Hosts of Mycobacteria 9 Conference, and “Controlling water microbiomes in space with specific UV wavelengths” at the Center of Microbiome Science and Infectious Diseases Institute Space Microbial Communities Research Workshop.

Dan won 1st place and Yijing won 3rd place in the poster competition at the One Water Ohio conference in Cleveland, OH, The conference is annually hosted by the Ohio Water Environment Association and the Ohio Section of the American Water Works Association. Congrats Dan and Yijing!
