Taking this online course really showed me ways to improve my study habits, time management, and how to make the most out out of online learning. My favorite article from this course is by Ann Chastain. The author explains how goals need to be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time bound. Using the S.M.A.R.T acronym really helped me make relevant thorough goals.
(Below was directly pulled from the article.)
- What exactly do I want to achieve?
- Why – specific reasons, purpose or benefits of accomplishing the goal.
- Who is involved?
- Where – identify a location.
- Which restrictions or limits are important to consider?
Another thing I will take from the course is how important time management is. Using the recommended technology, like study manager, I was able to set aside specific times every week to study or complete goals. Check out my learning technologies page to see the other useful apps/websites for organizing! Its also emphasized how important location, asking for help, and to not multitask is. When going to study be in a minimal distracting enviorment and put all focus into one specific task. When you hit a road block remember to reach out for help!
My final take away is the note taking strategies! Using abbreviations like acronyms and shortened words helped me save time when taking notes and write more! A study tactic I commonly use is making study guides or flash cards with questions you’d commonly see on a test and or writing down important condenced phrases. I found that making a web diagram off of one specific topic then going off into deeper more specific topics helped me categorize important topics!
