Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio. G.O.A.L.S.

First, in order to achieve the goal of Global Awareness, I might engage in study abroad or service trips. I am especially interested in perhaps participating in a Global Public Health study abroad trip to Finland. In addition, I can work to achieve this goal at home through my global studies requirement and through involvement in student organizations that improve my awareness of other cultures. Finally, I can work to make friends with other students who come from a very different cultural background than I do in order to better appreciate global diversity as well as diversity within the Ohio State community.

To achieve the goal of Original Inquiry, it is essential that I cultivate relationships with my professors to create a network of contacts to allow me to pursue research of my own. Many faculty members at Ohio State are world-class researchers in their respective fields. By making strong contacts with these people, I will allow myself to join them on the cutting edge of research and ultimately take on the task of answering my own original research question under their direction.

As an Honors student, achieving the goal of Academic Enrichment ought to be relatively easy. The neuroscience major offers a vast array of advanced and graduate-level courses for me to take as an undergrad. This rigorous major coursework, coupled with challenging and engaging Honors-level General Education courses should make for a curriculum markedly beyond the minimum standards that sets me apart from the average student at Ohio State.

I plan to achieve the goal of Leadership Development through several means. First, I plan to apply for the Neuro-Ambassador program through the neuroscience department, assisting with various events for current and prospective students. In addition, I am working to become a member Ohio State’s chapter of Nu Rho Psi, the national neuroscience honorary organization. I also plan to volunteer at a local hospital, serving patients and assisting nurses and doctors in any way I can.

The goal of Service Engagement is underlying in several of the aforementioned, especially through service project organized by Nu Rho Psi, hospital volunteering, and service-based study abroad trips.
