Link

Hanging off the picture frame is a bracelet and little blue link made for me by a good friend and mentor, Rachel Di Pilla (left).  Rachel also has a bracelet, and the two of us wear our “links” pretty much everyday.

This bracelet and link not only connect Rachel and I together, but it represents a significant time in my life.  Rachel Di Pilla was one of the biggest individuals who inspired me to go into Music Education.  She pushed me to pursue a career that I am truly passion about, and has guided me throughout the way.  Due to Rachel, I got involved more in teaching music by helping the 5th and 6th grade bands in my hometown district. I also received the opportunity to shadow Ms. Di Pilla in her general music class and 4th grade band lessons.  I not only learned patience, different teaching skills, and more about music, but I also learned that I had a love for teaching, especially music.

Our link represents my passion, as well as Rachel’s, for music education.

My Most Meaningful Experience

There is no doubt that band has and still does play a huge part in my life.  Many of my most meaningful experiences, from competing to meeting new people to teaching, came from my experience as Drum Major.  I was Drum Major of my high school marching band for three years beginning as a sophomore in 2013 until the end of my senior year in 2016.  Not only have I learned a ton about music, but being Drum Major has taught me leadership skills, problem solving, and a few teaching skills.  I will definitely miss being Drum Major, but I’m excited for new leadership opportunities at OSU.

Potential Professional Goals

After receiving my Bachelors in Music Education, I plan to start as a general music teacher in an elementary school.  My ideal job is to be a general music teacher along with teaching 4th and/or 5th grade band and instrumental lessons.  I wouldn’t mind teaching 4th/5th grade choir as well.  Eventually, I want to work my way up to become a high school band director, and then a college professor after receiving my Masters and Doctorates in Music.

Academic Goals

I am a hands on learner.  Therefore, my biggest goal for my years at OSU is to get involved inside and outside of my academics.  I enjoy meeting new people and learning from them in anyway I can, and that’s what I plan to do at The Ohio State University, especially with all the resources available to me.
