Volunteering First Semester of College

I volunteered at the Columbus Marathon for 5 hours, with DSWS for 2 hours cleaning up High Street, and planting trees during the day of service for 3 hours. I learned about all these opportunities through the scholars program, and signed up through the scholars program. For the Columbus Marathon, I handed water and Gatorade to the runners that where running by. During the high street cleanup, I picked up trash that was along the campus side of high street. During the day of service I, along with other members in the scholars program, travelled to Centennial High School to plant trees around the school.

During these volunteering events I learned that it feels good to help others. I also learned that I haven’t volunteered enough this year. In the past I have volunteered a lot more and it made me feel better as a person because I knew I was helping out someone in need.

In the future, I want to help organize more volunteer opportunities because I saw how big of an impact volunteering can be to other people. I also want to continue encouraging others to volunteer because there are so many different people in need in so many different way so the more people who volunteer, the more people that can be helped. I feel really passionate about volunteering and helping others so I will continue being a leader in promoting volunteering for the rest of my life.

Because of service learning I have grown as a person and realized how much volunteer work there is in the world.
