“In February, I was buying drinks in supermarket, and I found the officer said bad words to someone from countryside. That officer said publicly to that man to get out of the city and go back to your countryside, because supermarket is not place designed for low life like him. I chose to stay apart because I do not want to involve in trouble. Thinking back, I regret what I did, because I could stand out and pointing finger at that officer to maintain social justice. In that case, however, I report the case to the supervisor, and the supervisor said it was not my business, and they tried to seal my mouth through several gift card.”
“Indeed, their attitude made me mad, and I then decided to use public power. I visited my friend Sherfe, who produce videos at high standard, and we decided to make a video together to satirize this supermarket. We finally got the call from supermarket supervisor, and he wanted to deal with the case in return to delete the video from platform.”
“We meet with the supervisor last week. Nevertheless, he threats us that the video is lack of proof, which was designed to hurt the image of their company and said we will be held with responsibility. Of course, we will not compromise, and we promised to spread the video to multiple platforms if he still refuses to deal with the case. I also claimed to discuss with the director about the video with company image stuff, and that supervisor finally compromised with us. We agree to delete the video, and he punished the officer according to their company’s rule.”
“Racist could be anyone that discriminate another group of people based on power or status. I still remember what my professor told me when I first came to Ohio State, that choosing to turn a blind eye on those injustices is injustice itself. I wish we as students with education background could stand out, facing those injustices directly, because that is how we made our society a better world.”
“Today’s world, technology played a significant role, and beside the traditional injustice and discrimination against social status or power, I also found injustice within technology. Just as I found using the blog kind of confusing, most of the elder found cell phone to be hard to navigate. My first diary of injustice was about bank system who force everyone to use internet bank.”
“I was going to Bank, and I heard a loud quarrel. An old man was refused to take traditional bank service, and he was required to download apps on phone to operate with his account. Obviously, that old man cannot navigate through cell phone, and he wished the officer to withdraw the money directly from his card. The reply was that because of COVID-19, they will encourage the use of remote banking.”
“I still remember what that officer said to me when I tried to say something for that old man. The officer thinks me as that old man’s son and told me to teach my father how to use a cell phone before letting him out. I was ignited, and I tried to calm down.”
“Then I said: ‘There are just some groups of people did not use cell phone greatly, and we should understand their feeling.’ However, that officer warned me to get out, because I was violating the social order and discipline under COVID-19, and that officer said to call police if I did not get out.”
“That is the abuse of power against those who do not! I felt powerless, because something within their bank system and their officer was wrong obviously, and we public can only compromise with their rule. That old man thanked me and asked me to ignore him because he do not want me to get into trouble.”
“Thanks to a businesspeople, he directly called out the manager, and ask the manager for a favor for that old man. The manager took the old man to private service and told us he will help him with account. For what that officer did, the manager did not say anything, and I understand that there will be nothing happened for the injustice they create.”
“Thinking back of that event, I was wondering why so many people just standing there, watching the old man being insulting by those officers? That reached our theme of social responsibility, that when we saw the injustice, we should stand out and fix it. We should say something, even it will not change the outcome. Also, it was a along process to make those people in power use their power properly.”
“The most recent news about my friend’s father has came out. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison. My friend was crying for days, because he cannot accept what his father did with those bureaucrats.”
“My father was an honest man who always teach me to understand and respect other people, and he teaches me to follow the law at any time. He builds integrity inside me, but I cannot accept that he was held in prison because of bribery and corruption.”
“Of course, I also believe that my friend has a good father, but his father may not be good businesspeople. It was a disaster indeed for a family like him, especially a kid studying abroad with no money to support now. I know there must be conspiracy behind all these, and I also understand that his father’s case of bribery will be reappear within a short period. I know this was the sick system that made people within all sick together.”
“Every time these corruption cases are dealt with, the result is nothing more than sending a group of people to jail, and a new group of people restart the process. For corruption, I have nothing to do, because I do not have power to maintain justice. “What could we do with these injustices? For discrimination like what I encountered in supermarket and bank, we could stand out and pointing finger at those who ruined the social justice. For the corruption case in higher level within the company and government, we ordinary people can do nothing, and the only thing we can do is to make sure we are doing better job in the future if we are in their position.”
“Banks may also let those elderly people go home to find their children for online banking services, supermarkets may still insult those from the countryside, and policy maker may still be investigating the profit from the previous policy.”
