(Second) Year in Review

My second year at Ohio State was very challenging academically. I, like many of my peers, took on the treacherous journey of organic chemistry. The majority of my hours spent in the library consisted of drawing and understanding the mechanisms behind organic reactions. The series of organic chemistry were challenging, to say the least. No matter how much I studied, I knew that I could always learn more. It was the first topic in college where I truly realized how complex it was and what we were learning in lecture was only a small percentage of what was truly known. These classes taught my patience and grit and forced me to change my study habits tremendously to learn the material.

I also took many Neuroscience courses this year and took one of the hardest ones for the major second semester. These classes reinforced the reasons why I love this major so much and why I switched in the first place. Although one of the classes was very hard and required lots of studying, it has made me excited for my future neuroscience classes.

Although I did not take many credit hours during both semesters, I did take very challenging courses throughout the year. At times, it has been extremely hard to stay motivated but I have become a lot more patient and have tried to be more relaxed when it has come to my grades. I have been using my previous work to encourage me to perform better on each exam and also stay motivated.

Semester Reflection

This semester I learned a lot about myself and what I want for my future. I switched my major to neuroscience, and am excited to learn about this topic. I expanded my group of friends and never thought that my closest friends would be people in Bio Sci. Chemistry taught me new ways to study, which became critical throughout the semester. In addition, I learned specific subjects in biology that I am interested in and what areas of research I want to be apart of. Being open minded coming into this semester, I am still surprised by my newfound interests and what I want to do with the rest of my time at OSU. Being apart of MedLife and PenPals are activities that I want to continue as I have met some amazing friends this way. Regarding the future, my goal is to find a research position on campus.

Year in Review

[ “Year in Review”  is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student.  You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year.  For more information, go to: http://honors-scholars.osu.edu/e-portfolio.
