April is Occupational Therapy Month!

This is being provided to celebrate OT month as well as to discuss the importance and spread awareness of the profession!

What is Occupational Therapy?

  • Occupational therapy is the only profession that helps people across the lifespan to do the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of daily activities (occupations).
  • Occupational therapy practitioners enable people of all ages to live life to its fullest by helping them promote health, and prevent—or live better with—injury, illness, or disability.

Where Can Occupational Therapists Work?

  • Most occupational therapists work in hospitals or occupational therapy practices while others work in schools, physicians’ offices, mental health facilities, home health services nursing homes and more!

What Are Some Fun Facts About OT?

  • US News and World Report listed occupational therapy as The 25 Best Jobs in 2019 and Glassdoor listed Occupational Therapy as number 4 in the 50 Best Jobs in America for 2019
  • Occupational Therapy was found in the year of 1917 by three men and three women, during World War I (founded before physical therapy!)
  • “Occupation” does not just mean formal employment. Occupations include any and all meaningful and necessary activities of daily life, for example: dressing, eating, playing, learning, writing, socializing, shopping, driving, cooking etc.!
