Center for HOPES team members Saira NawazAnne Trinh, and Kyle Moon continue to work with partners in California to evaluate efforts to increase COVID-19 vaccinations among the Latinx community by bolstering a community-based workforce of outreach and health workers. This work is now being funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration and led by AltaMed, the nation’s largest federally qualified health center, and supported by multiple community-based clinics and organizations throughout the state.

A unique aspect of this work is its examination of the effects of civic and community engagement on population health outcomes. Dr. Nawaz comments that, “it’s really important that we understand the role of civic engagement in building more resilient communities, especially in times of need and crisis. We are measuring COVID-19 vaccination outcomes,  but are also developing a mixed-methods approach and innovative measurement systems to capture the impact of civic engagement on equity, policy development and advocacy, and social determinants of health.”
