2019 Annual Report

In its second year under Director Dr. Eric Seiber, the Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Evaluation Studies (HOPES) has continued the forward trajectory started during calendar year 2018. The addition of two doctorally prepared researchers has expanded the Center’s capacity. The scope of policy areas addressed by the Center for HOPES broadened to include opiate abuse and treatment, with the Center leading the Health Economics core of Ohio’s $68 million Healing Communities Study awarded by NIDA/SASMHA. The Center for HOPES also added new projects this year relating to prescription drug misuse and abuse prevention, contraceptive and reproductive health policy, and global health evaluation and monitoring. In addition, the Center for HOPES supported academic inquiry by involving students in research and developing a seminar series focused upon the social determinants of health.
