G.O.A.L.S.

Throughout the course of my undergraduate studies, I plan to partake in many classes and activities to fulfill the Honors and Scholars G.O.A.L.S.

I plan to meet the requirements for the Global Awareness area in many different ways. For starters, for my Political Science major, there are many different international relations and global politics classes that I can take. These classes will be able to enhance my knowledge about global topics and learn about problems that are occurring around the world, related to my areas of interest. Additionally, I also plan to study abroad during my undergraduate years. I think that gaining a global perspective is very important while learning and being able to study and work in another country would be very beneficial for me.

Additionally, to accomplish the aspects of the Original Inquiry category, I strongly want to partake in research with a professor during my undergraduate years. Although research in the humanities and political science fields are not typically the first kinds of research that people think of, I have heard of a lot of studies done in these fields that really interest me. For example, there has been a lot of research done related to polling and the election process that I find to be very interesting. I plan on contacting some professors in the political science department and seeing what opportunities there are to get involved with research that they may be doing in order to expand on my interests.

Academic Enrichment is another area of the G.O.A.L.S objectives that I plan to fulfill as well. My current course of majoring in political science is enriching me in an educational path that will help me achieve my future goals of going to law school. I believe that the classes that I am taking and will continue to take to fulfill my major requirements are ones that are equipping me with lots of knowledge that I plan to use in both my future educational endeavors and careers. Additionally, I plan to major or minor in another area of study as well, but I have not selected what that will be yet.

Furthermore, I plan to accomplish the requirements for the Leadership Development area by partaking in many different activities both in and around campus. Since it is just the beginning of my undergraduate career, I haven’t quite solidified my involvement in a lot of school clubs; however, as the year goes on, I plan to become a lot more involved in the clubs that I have already started to take interest in. Additionally, one of my biggest interests is taking part in a political internship while I am in school which will help advance my leadership skills. Since Columbus is the capital of our state and has so many political institutions and resources surrounding it, I plan to fully take advantage of these aspects and engage in a political internship which would help further my learning for the area of study I am interested in and my future professional endeavors.

Finally, I will fulfill the Service Engagement category by doing a lot of service work with different clubs on campus. In high school, service work was something very important to me, and I was involved in a lot of clubs that did volunteer work in my community. Specifically, I really enjoyed doing service work that helped children and the lower grades of my high school community. During my undergraduate career, I want to continue volunteering with the youth in the Columbus community as well as engaging in other service areas. There are many clubs at OSU that do a lot of service work both in the community and around the world, and I plan on getting very involved with these organizations.

About Me

Hello! My name is Katie Hoover, and I am from Pepper Pike, OH, a suburb outside of Cleveland. I am majoring in Political Science with the goal of attending law school after college. In my free time, I love playing volleyball, working out, and spending time with friends. In high school, I was also a dedicated member of the Mock Trial team and many service-oriented clubs which are two things I plan on continuing at OSU!
