Emergency Response Team Training

During my first year in this position, I expanded upon our existing emergency response plans. I organized and labeled all our school’s emergency response bags, created a reference folder of what to do during different medical emergencies, created a documentation sheet aka run sheet, and made a more detailed map of the school including door numbers and which door were accessible for EMS.

I had several members of the Emergency Response Team request clarification of what they could do during an emergency. I decided a live drill would be most helpful. First, I asked each member of the team to come to the clinic so I could show them where emergency items are kept. Next, I came up with a scenario that could occur at the school which the emergency response team would need to respond to. I conducted 2 hands-on, mock scenarios that the team members participated in so the team could have this experience and everyone would know what to do during an emergency.  Just before the drill I explained which roles are needed in an emergency and what the expectations are of each role. Several days after the drills were completed, I sent an e-mail recapping what we learned from the drill. Below are documents I created as well as several pictures from the drill.

  1. It looks like you have a great training module for your ERT staff. I like that you added the pictures to show them preparing for an emergency. I think this is well done.
