Jenna Bailey’s Paper Accepted
Jenna Bailey, who completed her undergraduate thesis in December 2022 with Jim Hood, recently had the paper on her thesis work accepted. The title is, Biotic and thermal drivers alter zooplankton phenology in western Lake Erie.

Dr. Hood participates in Western Lake Erie panel discussion
Dr. Jim Hood was invited to speak at Michigan’s State of the Western Lake Erie Basin Conference in Adrian, Michigan, on December 12, 2023. The conference was organized and hosted by the University of Michigan Water Center and Michigan Sea Grant. Dr. Hood provided his expertise on the bioavailability of phosphorus in a panel discussion titled, “Approaches to Monitoring Phosphorus.”

Dr. Hood gives seminar at BGSU
Dr. Hood presented a seminar for the Bowling Green State University Department of Biological Sciences last Wednesday, November 15. His talk was titled, “50 years of ecosystem change in Lake Erie: Interactions among climate, phosphorus, and land use practices.”
Joe Gentine runs for fun with AEL labmates
Hood Lab master’s student Joe Gentine participated in Gourdy’s Pumpkin 5K fun run last weekend, along with some fellow AELers Andrew Foley & Kylee Wilson. Joe and Andrew are more seasoned runners, while the rest of the crew just had a great time out running and spending time with friends!
Joe finished 8th overall, 4th in the 20-29 age bracket
Andrew finished 16th overall, 6th in the 20-29 age bracket
Dr. Hood presents at local elementary school
On 15 September, Dr. Jim Hood gave a presentation on Ecosystem Ecology to 5th graders at Worthington Estates Elementary school.
Dr. Hood gives Sea Grant Seminar
Dr. Jim Hood gave an Ohio Sea Grant Seminar August 29 as part of the Research Webinar Series. His talk was titled, “A new modeling approach for estimating stream phosphorus cycling from high-frequency dissolved phosphorus monitoring.”
Jim’s presented on the results of work conducted with his students, Devan Mathie and Joe Gentine, and in partnership with researchers in the Translational Data Analytics Institute (TDAI) and the OSU Department of statistics, Oksana Chkrebtii and Emerson Webb.

Hannah Moore presents at AFS 2023
Hood Lab PhD student, Hannah Moore, traveled to Grand Rapids, Michigan, with fellow AELers Rachael Finigan, Jacob Bentley, and Dr. Casey Pennock to attend the Annual Meeting of the American Fisheries Society.
Hannah gave a talk on her PhD research, titled, “Reservoir functional age influences sport fish population characteristics.”
