This is my library ID for my work in the mailroom in the Thompson Library.  This has been significant to me for this year because I have spent many hours per week working there.  My time this year at the library has pushed me to work hard, meet new people I would`t normally approach, and manage my time wisely.  This job has positively affected my attitude towards my first year at Ohio State and I hope to continue to work at the library for the rest my years here.

Year in Review

During my first year as a student as OSU I have not only developed greatly as a student but also as a person.  Although I haven`t done anything that stands out significantly this year there are many things I have accomplished and experienced throughout the year.  In the first semester I was able to find a job at Thompson library as a facilities assistant.  This has helped me to be  better and more efficient at time management and prioritizing.  I have also joined a club to volunteer at the Franklin Shelter which has allowed me to participate in a service activity which incorporates also my passions.  This year also pushed me to leave my comfort zone to meet new people and do things I would`t normally do.  My first year at OSU has been a difficult transition but forced me to learn how to adapt to new situations and experiences.

This novel “Time Longer Than Rope,” goes into depth into the Civil Rights Movement with a perspective different than most American History textbooks.  It also illuminates radical black leadership and spirit that most people don`t learn about.  We read this novel for my african american civil rights class and not only does it represent what I`ve done relating to academics but it has also impacted me on a personal level. I`ve learned many things from this novel but what has really stuck with me is Frederick Douglas` advice to his fellow abolitionists, “if there is no struggle, there is not progress,” this is true for anything that you hope to accomplish and has helped me through my first semester.

About Me

IMG_0740

I`m Taylor Hood, I’m a freshman at OSU this fall although I am currently undecided for a major, I plan to continue on a math and science route this year.  I graduated from Westlake High School , ( a suburb of Cleveland), where I played basketball, ran track and cross country, was involved in various clubs.  I like to be involved with groups and clubs to get to know others!  I identify with my race and gender identities deeply and I believe these two characteristics have most significantly shaped who I am now.  I am half black and half white which has pushed me to be able to adapt in situations where I don`t seem to fit in.  Also being a women I am sensitive to certain situations that I most likely would`t be otherwise. I selected IA scholars as one of my top choices because I like to be globally aware.  My worst fear is to be ignorant and I hope the topics we touch on in our scholars class can help me from becoming oblivious of what`s happening internationally. This year I hope to expand not only my knowledge but also my experiences at OSU this upcoming year through my class selection and getting involved.
