Hello! My name is Abigail, Abi, Holmes. I ventured to THE Ohio State University, OSU, from Trumbull, Connecticut, a sleepy town on the shore. While my immediate family lives in Connecticut my extended family lives in the suburbs of Columbus. Unlike most out-of-state students I have a huge support group close by for advice, love, and home cooked meals. My family is incredibly present in my life, they are always there to support me and cheer me up. The best part of my day is coming home to my family for dinner, sharing the ups and downs of our days. Faith is very important to me, as I was involved with my church youth programs and service projects back home. I plan on continuing my faith here at OSU by getting involved with RealLife Cru on campus. I am a firm believer in working hard to achieve my goals. I am not the type of person who sits around and waits for opportunities to fall into my lap-once I set a goal I do not rest until I reach it. I am beginning my first year at Ohio State studying civil engineering in the Humanitarian Engineering Scholars, HES, program. HES encompasses exactly what I want to do with my life- use my engineering degree to serve my community. I want to join Engineers Without Borders and travel internationally with this group to become more connected globally. If it works with my schedule I would love to study abroad so that I can explore different cultures and learn more about our world. Ultimately, I want to create a memorable college experience by engaging with my professors and peers while getting to know and serve the Columbus, and even international, community. My highest expectation of myself is to try my best, whether that be in the classroom or getting involved.
