[Artifacts are the items you consider to be representative of your academic interests and achievements. For each entry, include both an artifact and a detailed annotation. An annotation includes both a description of the artifact and a reflection on why it is important to you, what you learned, and what it means for your next steps. Year in Review
[ “Year in Review” is where you should reflect on the past year and show how you have evolved as a person and as a student. You may want to focus on your growth in a particular area (as a leader, scholar, researcher, etc.) or you may want to talk about your overall experience over the past year. G.O.A.L.S.
For the Global Awareness aspect of G.O.A.L.S. I am currently enrolled in a London Honors course that will take an eleven day trip to London, England during the winter break of 2019. In the future, I may go on other trips outside of the US. So far, I have not participated in any Original Inquiry. However, as I plan to go into research as a career, it is a given that I will participate in research either independently or through assisting a professor sometime in the next two years, and will continue to perform research after that. I plan to fulfill the Academic Enrichment goal through taking more honors courses over the coming semester, as I have only enrolled in one so far. To engage in Leadership Development, I have involved myself in several clubs: Buckeyes for Baking, Molecular Genetics Club, and Board to Death. As I go through my college career, it is highly possible that I may take on leadership positions within those clubs such as president, vice president, or secretary. Finally, for the Service Engagement aspect of G.O.A.L.S. I have already made substantial progress. I volunteered during Community Commitment on August 24, 2019, where my group was responsible for picking up trash along the Olentangy River. We split into two groups so we could cover both sides of the river, then picked up paper, plastic, and cigarettes for two hours. It was a very rewarding experience, and I would love to do it again. On September 14, 2019, I again volunteered through PayItForward, which was the organization that put together Community Commitment. This time the group was much smaller, and we went to a local food pantry called Fruit of the Vine. There we spent four hours doing whatever needed done as the food pantry handed out grocery bags to everyone who came. I personally was responsible for helping to pack the large brown paper bags with rice, cereal, pistachios, and other staples, in addition to transferring bags closer to the window so the distributor could simply grab the bag nearest, and hand it across the counter. However, my favorite job was breaking down cardboard boxes. The pantry produced a lot of empty boxes because they buy much of their food, and around 50% of the boxes then needed to be broken down and transferred to the recycling bin outside. The other 50% of boxes could be reused for Fruit of the Vine’s farmers market, so we used our spatial reasoning to fit the boxes together so that they took up the least amount of space. Finally, on September 22, 2019, I will participate in a 5K called UniteForBleedingDisorders, that fundraises for patients and families with blood-related conditions such as hemophilia.
