Computer Science

I have recently become very interested in the field of Computer Science, starting in high school. I first became aware of the field near the end of my 8th grade year in middle school. I heard about a STEM program at one of the neighboring highs schools. This particular program focused on math and science, with a minor additional focus on Computer Science. After I applied and got in to the program I began to take the related courses and found that I enjoyed coding and its many applications. One of the first things that I began to do with the limited coding skills that I had gathered was to look into animations and how they were made. I began with very basic animations, using simple frames, and then moved out into using keyframes to make more fluid animations. I stopped shortly after this and then moved on to basic coding and began to make simple programs. All of this has lead up to the class that I am currently in, though I do not feel like it is too far from what I had learned in high school.

Currently, I am learning how to write programs more efficiently and I am beginning to understand how more modern programs function. Programs aren’t just large blocks of code, but rather, consist of hundreds of tiny cells that each perform one specific action when called by the main program. These tiny cells can contain simple mathematical equations and operations, or could contain loops that process information hundreds of times before spitting the final output to the main program. The more modern programs are greatly compressed to save on space and to limit the amount of time it takes to process them. These modern programs are very different than what I can currently do, but I will be getting to the point soon where I can begin to create something similar that might actually be used to accomplish a simple task.
