1-Three years after his death in 1658, Charles II ordered the body of Oliver Cromwell to be dug up and executed. His corpse was hanged, drawn and quartered, and beheaded. His head found its way from hand to hand and was even exhibited in a freak show as “The Monster’s Head”.
2-Mexican General Santa Anna’s leg was amputated after being mangled by a French cannon round. He ordered a full state funeral for his appendage. 3-Peter the Great of Russia had his wife’s secret lover executed, and the head kept in a jar in his wife’s bedroom.
4-Medieval courts tried Animals as well as humans. A common sentence for these animals was death.
5-A rabbit hunt set up by Napoleon in 1807 went terribly wrong. The rabbits gathered for the hunt were not wild, but domestic. When they were released, the starving rabbits swarmed Napoleon and his party, leading him to run for his carriage with bunnies nipping at his heels.
6-A Parisian orphanage raffled babies as a fund raiser in 1912.
7-Bolsheviks of the Russian Revolution overthrew the provisional government and stormed the Winter Palace in 1917, but delayed further activities several days because they were drunk off of the captured wine stores.
8- Russian dogs were trained to run under and detonate tanks in WWII. The problem occurred that the dogs were trained with Russian tanks, leading them to run under and detonate friendly tanks on the battlefield, as opposed to German ones.
9-The Russians have had “blocking units” throughout history. These military units were in charge of keeping troops from deserting via execution.
10-King Goujian of Yue placed convicted criminals in the front line of his army. As battle commenced, the criminals were ordered to slit their own throats, terrifying the opposing forces.
