Artifacts

My Artifact is the graduation tassel I received at Convocation. You may be like, what does that have to do with your time at Ohio State so far, but this is what I would tell you.  First semester some of my best experiences were yoga, Bell National Resource Center Scholars program and one of the classes I was enrolled in called ESPESY 1259. These three experiences helped me grow more confident, more social, and it helped Ohio State feel like home. BNRC providing with friendships and relationships that could truly last a lifetime, ESPESY helping me become more confident, and yoga connecting my mind with my body while reaxing my mind when it was stressed. My graduation tassel connects all these experiences and makes them one because this tassel represents the start of a very memorable journey. The tassel is truly significant to me because it reminds me of why I attend Ohio State. It speaks to me saying “The journey will be tough, long days are necessary at times, and classes might be extremely hard, but through this all you have to remember you are here to learn, better yourself, and develop your inner voice to speak up.”

About Me

My name is Timothy Hinton, and I am a freshman at The Ohio State University. I am from Sandusky, Ohio. I actually always had the dream of coming to Ohio State, and now that I made it here I could not be more excited to start my journey of professional, social, and mental development. My major is currently marketing with an interest in pre-med, but I am also interested in the psychological aspect of life. I would like to do research to help me understand behavioral issues, so I can help students overcome the adversities they face. I really would like to see a 4.0 in my days here at Ohio State, but to me that is not realistic because learning comes more from experiences than in the classroom test and exams. So one of my goals is to stay involved, take risk taking upon various different opportunities. One of the opportunities I would like to take on is going overseas to study abroad. I would like to visit somewhere in Africa to discover my roots because I always have felt there has been a part of me I have not discovered yet. I believe I will find that piece in Africa. Another opportunity I look to take on is developing my leadership skills by getting involved in leadership positions. Making sure that I have a voice and building my confidence, so one day I can speak out for those who cannot speak for themselves. Lastly, the most important goal in my years at Ohio State is to get involved in mentoring, and figure out what I need to develop based on the needs of kids. I have always had a dream of creating a mentoring program, and I would like to start developing that programs foundation here at Ohio State. These years will be fun, and I cannot wait to see the changes and successes that will come my way as well as my friends!
