GOALS

Global Awareness

As a Spanish major, I plan to study abroad in Spain this coming summer of 2020. On this trip I hope to broaden my understanding of Spanish culture. Until I am in Spain, I am dedicated to understanding cultures different from my own so as to increase my understanding of global issues. This understanding comes through education in my spanish classes as well as consistent awareness of global news. I am also a member of the Global Awareness and Leadership Development branch of the Honors Community Council, and this position has given me the opportunity to understand various cultures outside of my own.

Original Inquiry

The prospect of research is extremely exciting for me. I have considered topics that I would be interested in further researching in my time at Ohio State. I would like to perform research on the psychology of weight gain and loss, discovering the effect that positive thinking has on one’s ability to maintain weight. I would also be interested in comparing the sleep patterns of teenagers who use technology immediately before bed to those of teenagers who do not.

Academic Enrichment

I am often asked why I chose to major in Spanish if my end goal is to be a doctor. Although an extraneous major choice for my desired profession, I believe that an integration of this language to my pre medical course work will give me a unique advantage when entering medical school. In all honesty, the prospect of majoring in science did not excite me in the way that a major in Spanish on the pre-medical track did.

I am fully committed to choosing courses that will enrich my development as a leader and provide me with the greatest opportunity to have a successful future. For these reasons, I have integrated spanish with pre-medical courses.

Leadership Development

As stated above, I am a member of the Global Awareness and Leadership Development Team on the Honors Community Council. In this capacity, I am positioned as a leader of my fellow Honors & Scholars peers. My goal is to unite the honors community as a leader, specifically through activities that call upon the beauty of global diversity.

Service Engagement

I am a member of the chapter of the American Medical Women’s Association at Ohio State. Through this organization, I have been introduced to the YWCA Women’s Center, where we volunteer as a group bi-weekly to provide activities for the children. In addition to the volunteer aspect of the AMWA, I also participate in various activities through the St. Thomas More Newman Center on campus.
