About Myself
Hi there! Welcome to my Course Project site. My name is Katy Hillman and I am currently a freshman in the Fisher School of Business at The Ohio State University. All throughout my life I have struggled with procrastination and time management. In high school I would struggle to get my work in on time and if I did get it done on time I usually completed it the day it was due.
Obviously college and its workload is very different from high school. I did not want to fall into the same pit of procrastination in college as I knew it would not be as easy to get by as high school was. To keep this from happening I gave myself a goal of becoming more productive and helping to create a more professional persona for myself.
My Project and Goals
I decided to use the book Getting from College to Career by Lindsey Pollak to help make myself more productive everyday and create a more professional presence for myself. My first goal for the project is from Chapter 3 of the book and is titled “Start a Really Big List” which includes everything from everything you’d like to achieve a day to companies you’d like to work for and jobs you’d like to have. I decided to focus on the list of things you would like to achieve a day. My goal is that I will complete at least 3 tasks a day to make each day more productive and get all my work in on time. The author of my book suggested setting 3 to 4 goals a day to make yourself be more productive and feel more accomplished for the day. I have noticed in myself that I usually procrastinate and complete my work at the last minute or the day that it is due. I either spend my days working for hours being very productive or doing little to no work in a day. I was hoping that by using this strategy I will be able to be productive everyday and work ahead and reduce my procrastination and stress of completing work the day it is due.
My second goal was to try different strategies from Chapter 2 of my book entitled ‘Stop Being a Student and Start Being a Professional.’ These strategies are meant to help students become the best version of themselves and the most hire-able they can be.
I will reflect on each week with a blog post. In each post I will show a picture of that week’s planner page and whether or not I completed all of my tasks. I will also reflect on the strategy I chose from Chapter 2 and how I can be better in the following week to be more successful.
Tracking
To help keep track of my progress, I have decided to use a paper planner to help record my goals and what I achieve. I am a very visual person and like to see things written out which is why I chose a paper planner so I can see the way things are written out and physically cross them off when they are completed. I chose this rather than an online calendar so I can cross them off rather than just delete items to help me look back and reflect.
