Design

“Styles come and go. Good design is a language, not a style.” These words were said by Italian Designer, Massimo Vignelli. As a design foundations student, I am starting to realize how important this quote is. To me, design is solving an everyday problem while keeping in mind aesthetics and usability. Design makes daily function easier and more convenient for the user. My relationship with design started just a few years ago, when I was introduced to Graphic Design in terms of my high school yearbook publication. Although I have experience with graphic design, I have most interest in the Interior Design program. I would love to be given the opportunity to take a space and fix the problems given while creating an aesthetic. I hope to be challenged in this program, because I believe that is the best way to grow not only as a designer, but as a person.

Bio

I am a second year student coming from North Royalton, OH, which is about 30 minutes south of Cleveland. I started off my journey at The Ohio State University Mansfield campus, which is where I decided that design was what I truly wanted to do with my life. Along with my new found love for everything that goes into design, one of my favorite hobbies is photography. I’ve taken photos of friends, family and even pets, and I love being able to capture beautiful and meaningful moments. I have taken multiple drawing classes in the past few years due to a new appreciation for drawing and sketching. I was also a staff member of my high school yearbook for two years, and was an editor for my final year. Now, here are a few fun facts so you get to know me a little better.

  • I have lived in 5 different cities in Ohio, and have moved 9 times total within those cities.
  • I have a 3 year old beagle named Marty.
  • I was a competitive cheerleader for 10 years.
  • I run a small clothing page to make money for school.

Experience

From my time as a yearbook staff member and editor, I gained experience working with the creative cloud. In yearbook, I worked a lot with Photoshop. While using Photoshop, I was responsible for editing photos to make sure they met the standards of the printing company, creating cutouts of photos and creating other pieces that went onto the pages. Along with Photoshop, I also have experience with Indesign. With Indesign, we would create a full spread including placing the text, infographics and photos. I also had the responsibility of creating infographics based on the information that was given to me. I also have knowledge on how to use:

  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Lightroom
  • Microsoft Word
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Microsoft Power Point
  • Vector/Raster based Softwares

Future Aspirations

Since I can remember, I have always been interested in the reason for why spaces are designed or arranged a certain way. Growing up, I never realized how much of an impact a room could give on someone. The way that a room can change the way someone feels, or even works in that space is what gives me the desire to want to create spaces that make the user feel comfortable and happy. It has always been a dream of mine to be able to design spaces in homes & backyards. It may sound cheesy, but I grew up watching HGTV, and I have always looked up to a lot of the designers on these shows. I gained the desire to hopefully design from seeing some of the best do it everyday.
