Hidden In Plain Sight

SUMMARY

In this project we were challenged to pick an area in either Hayes Hall, Hopkins or the Fine Arts Library that would portray a concept based on a riddle picked for that space, and what we wanted to tell about that space. This installation that we created is meant to hide in plain sight as well. With material research and analyzing all of the elements in the space, we created an installation to the space that would involve a deeper message beyond being hidden.

REFLECTIONS

This project made me more aware of not only the areas around me, but how they work and what feelings they give off. Before this project, I would never think to make something like a box over a vent that showcases the circulation of air going on around us all day, everyday based on the circulation of people that happens in the same area. I have a new found appreciation for the feeling and purpose of everyday spaces that are taken for granted. I began with a completely different idea, and finished with an installation that harmonized with the space around it. I chose to celebrate what the space had to offer rather than adding to it.
