Introduction

Hershey’s is the largest chocolate manufacturer in United States, and it is continuing to expand all over the world.  What was once known as Hershey’s Food Corporation is now known as the Hershey Company since 2005 (“The Hershey Company”, 2009).  The man behind this company is Milton Hershey, who was raised in central Pennsylvania, and this later became home to the Hershey’s company.  What started out as Crystal A Caramels, has expanded to a chocolate company that includes products like milk chocolate, Cookies ‘n’ Creame, kisses, Krackel, Mr. Goodbar, cocoa, spreads, and syrups.  1900 was the year Americans were able to enjoy a Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bar, and just a few years later, more Hershey’s products were developed. (“Chocolate Products” 2015)

We’ve chosen Hershey’s Chocolate as the topic of our commodity chain because chocolate is one of our favorite foods.  The site is broken down into the six different activities that take place in the process of making Hershey’s chocolate.  The six activities include the extraction of raw materials, manufacturing, transport, purchase, delivery, and disposal.
