The most useful thing I learned this week in Online Learning Strategies was prioritization. This is key for any student in college. During college, students will likely have many different tasks on their plate, and it is hard to balance and make time for everything. During school, students will be involved in classes, clubs, work, social life, studying, and a plethora of other tasks. This makes is to important to prioritize the things you need to get done.
Many people do this in their head, where they pick a task to work on before they work on something else. This is better than nothing, but it often lets our behavioral biases get in the way. A better alternative is to write down the things you have to do every week, and then rank them in order of how important it is that something gets done. This will serve as a great reference through the week in knowing what you need to do and when. In the past, I have been a person who does this all in their head, but now I will start writing down my priorities every week in order to optimize them. Ideally, this will allow me to put high-priority tasks first and push low-priority tasks back.
I recommend that all students, and even others, give this a shot to see how it turns out. Best case scenario, you start to see your time being managed much more effectively. Worse case scenario, it doesn’t work and you move on to another method. Either way, everyone needs to find a way to properly prioritize.
