Phosphorus Removal Structures Program

The Ohio Department of Agriculture is proud to announce two RFPs under the new Phosphorus Removal Structures Program, part of Governor DeWine’s H2Ohio Initiative.

As part of ODA’s effort to reduce phosphorus losses from cropland, the new program looks to address agricultural sites with higher-than-average risk of P loss due to high STP. To support future implementation efforts, the program is currently investing in research that aims to improve the technology and the associated siting methods.

These research funds are being offered under two separate RFPs, both of which are open through December 31, 2024. Under each RFP, proposals may include funding requests up to $600,000. The two RFPs’ respective research objectives are as follows:

  1. Technology Development/Improvement Grant :  Developing innovative new designs for phosphorus removal structures in the WLEB, or improving upon current designs
  2. Methods to Identify High Phosphorus Loss Site Research Grant : Identifying parameters indicative of high phosphorus losses on agricultural sites, and recommending processes to identify higher-than-average risk sites

This investment in research will aid ODA in efforts to identify appropriate sites for phosphorus removal structures and install them using designs that are effective for Ohio’s WLEB watershed.

The RFPs can be found online at  https://agri.ohio.gov/divisions/soil-and-water-conservation/resources/P_removal_structures.
