Hi, my name is Phoebe Helms and I am a first year student at The Ohio State University majoring in Political Science and Journalism. I went to New Albany High School in New Albany, Ohio, but I have lived in Michigan, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts as well. At New Albany I was very involved in the Thespian Society, and I served as a board member my junior year and as President my senior year. The summer before my senior year I also became involved with LEAD Ohio, a non-profit that trains progressive women and minorities to run for office in Ohio. I stayed involved with them through the duration of my senior year, volunteering at events, and over the past few months I have been editing their informational video webinars as well as organizing campaign finances/donations.
Here at Ohio State I am currently involved in the Mount Leadership Society Scholars and I am a committee member of the Leadership and Social Change Committee (LSCC). I am also a Morrill Scholar and I am on their Communications and Creative Expressions team. I am also currently signed up as a member of the Ohio State Mountaineers. I plan on continuing my work with LEAD throughout my time at Ohio State and finding more opportunities within the political sphere. After I finish my undergraduate degree at Ohio State, I plan on going to law school, and I could see myself either practicing law or following a more journalistic route.
