Exploring Columbus – Fox in the Snow Cafe
It was a sunny afternoon on October 20, 2019, and Mohammed Elbana, Antonio Linek, Solomon Weiss, and I had plans to visit the Fox in the Snow Café. When I walked up to the coffee shop, I first noticed the beautiful ivy surrounding a small white fox on the front of the building. Next, I observed several nicely dressed couples entering the café, and finally, I realized I desperately longed for a nice cappuccino. The atmosphere in the café was fresh and exciting yet calm and tasteful.
The experience was everything I hoped for on a peaceful, Sunday afternoon. We were able to enjoy coffee, pastries, and good conversation. I, along with Mohammed, enjoyed a steamy cappuccino and slice of coffee cake. On a weekend afternoon, the café was relatively busy, but it was pleasant to see so many joyful faces taking advantage of the good weather. For our purposes, the timing was perfect, and I wouldn’t change anything; however, if I was planning to study, I would consider making the trip on a weekday afternoon. A lot of the clientele were young and middle-aged adults who are probably working during regular afternoons. Overall, I am looking forward to my next trip to the Fox in the Snow Café.

Artifacts
Creativity has always been a huge part of my academic experience, and I believe my camera best represents my creativity. When I was in 6th grade, I took my first class on photography, and I used a tiny digital camera. Several years later, my parents got me this DSLR for Christmas. I spent a lot of my time during high school taking portraits for people, photographing school events, and experimenting in general. Anytime I could include pictures into a school assignment, I jumped at the opportunity. This strengthened my engagement in my learning experience, and it brought excitement and joy into my assignments. Blending my own creativity with school work was one of the few things that really kept me involved in the education.
About Me
My name is David Hedrick, I love a close-knit group of friends, a good book or writing prompt, and the occasional dance party. If you didn’t already know, I am first year Biomedical Engineering pre-major at the Ohio State University. You may be wondering why I picked such a large school and STEM heavy major based on my interests. Well, if you’re not, I am. While some of my passions in life are more humanities and socially based, I’ve grown up with a sort of knack for science and math. Consequently, I never had a favorite subject in School, and that carried over into deciding on my major. Instead of starting at the beginning with my interests, I looked to my end goal. My current dream is to complete my major, attend medical school, and combine my skills as both an engineer and a doctor to serve marginalized populations throughout the world. I believe that serving communities will allow me to tap into my love for people and humanities while utilizing my skills in the STEM field. The dreams I have now are big, and there is a high probability they will change by the time I receive my bachelor’s degree; however, I think this is as good a place as any to begin the rest of my life.
Strengths:
- Honesty – Yes, I believe it is important to speak truthfully, but I find that it is so much more important to live honestly than to just speak it. It is of the utmost importance that the things I do adequately reflect the words that leave my tongue.
- Spirituality – I have faith that there is a God who created the entire universe and me. I believe he loves me, he is with me, and that he has called me his child (John 1:12).
- Bravery – My enneagram number is one, and it is called the Reformer. I see things that are wrong or need improvement, and I am not afraid to speak up and take action.
- Forgiveness – In my own life, I know that there are many mistakes and imperfections, but the Holy, perfect God of the universe has forgiven me; therefore, there is no reason why I cannot forgive others.
- Kindness – As a child of God, I believe I am called to love others as I am loved by my creator. The Gospel message tells a story that believers are called to live out in love and kindness.
