What is HCS-GSA?

The Horticulture and Crop Science Graduate Student Association (HCS-GSA) was first established to unite, serve, and represent graduate students within the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science. The purposes of HCSGSA are as follows:

  1. To provide opportunities for the interaction of current and incoming graduate students
  2. To improve student’s professional development skills through networking and professional events
  3. To provide a forum to plan academic and social events within the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science
  4. To serve as a liaison between graduate students and departmental administration

Who can be a part of HCS-GSA?

Any graduate student currently enrolled in the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science at The Ohio State University is eligible to become a member of HCSGSA. Additionally, graduate students enrolled in other programs, but mentored by a faculty member in the Horticulture and Crop Science Department may join.

The HCSGSA does not discriminate on the basis of age, ancestry, color, disability, gender identity or expression, genetic information, HIV/AIDS status, military status, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, protected veteran status, or any other bases under the law, in its activities, programs, admission, and employment.

How do I participate in HCS-GSA as an HCS graduate student?

There are many ways to be a part of HCS-GSA. First and foremost, you can follow information on this website and join our personal development and social events.

As a graduate student, you are also required to attend the annual HCS Graduate Research Symposium (GRS). Make sure to attend it and sign up for the planning committee if you are willing to help out with the organization of the GRS. You’ll likely acquire valuable soft skills through the experience, too.

Running for Officer positions is another option. We send out application to get potential candidates and hold Election every year. Let’s pay it forward and obtain leadership experience by choosing to serve as an Officer of GSA.

Last but not least, contact any Officers and send us feedback, questions, concerns, or thoughts regarding HCS-GSA, the department, the university, or anything related to your graduate experience here. After all, HCS-GSA is here because of you and to serve you and ensure that you’ll have the best experience possible as an HCS graduate student.
