This semester, I spent my time as a Client Casework Intern at the American Red Cross. Through this experience I met amazing new people and completed over 120 hours of service. My position allowed me to work with the public, specifically those in Central Ohio who recently experienced a natural disaster like a house fire or flood. I developed relationships with these clients, provided community referrals and Red Cross funds, and helped them develop their recovery plan. Periodic follow-ups allowed me to check on their progress and provide them with necessary resources for recovery. I was also able to be a part of the Disaster Action Team that goes to the sites of disasters and works hands-on with clients. This allowed me to meet in person with our clients and deploy psychological first aid in the midst of their trauma. This internship opportunity taught me many things about the world and my community and allowed me to play a part and changing the lives of others.
