Year in Review

My first week at OSU was one of the best experiences I have ever had. There was so much going on and yet there didn’t seem to be enough hours in the day for me to do it all. One of the best experiences was moving in early with my scholars group, Dunn Sports and Wellness. Moving in early gave me a chance to explore campus without a huge rush of other people around as well. I enjoyed being broken into smaller groups that were separate from my suite mates so that I could meet more people in my scholars group. This new group became my scholars family, even if we didn’t win any of the games, blue team is still the best. The most fun game we played involved a bucket of water and you had to pass a cup full either over your head or in between you legs to the next person. The person at the end of the line would then have to bend backwards to dump the cup of water into the other bucket. Buck-i-frenzy had so many free things that by the end of the night I had a full bag of snacks to leave me a couple of days. I also got to zip line for the first time at buck-i-frenzy. The best event for me though during welcome week was the Big Sean concert. I am a very big fan of Hip Hop music so when I heard that I was so excited and enjoyed it a lot.

Artifacts

The first artifact I would like to talk about is my blue team shirt for my scholars family. Our team name was “As good as Dunn” in honor of our scholars group, Dunn Sports and Wellness. I received this t-shirt on my very first day and wore it during all of our team bonding games and activity that first day. Since everyone was still new it was nice to have a color to help you find the people in your group in the crowd of about 70 people. It was also nice to feel a sense of belonging in a new place and matching shirts helped convey that feeling of welcoming and acceptance to us. Out of all the shirts I have now gotten while on campus my two favorite shirts are my blue team shirt and my Honors and Scholars shirt. These shirts set you apart from other people because of the leadership and dedication we chose to give to a group bigger than ourselves. Being new on campus can be scary but knowing you already have groups there to support you can really help the transition to college. Another artifact of mine that I really value is a flyer telling students to come out to the Big Sean concert. As I said before I love rap so I made sure to grab a flyer so I wouldn’t forget the date. Music is a great way for people to express themselves and that night there were so many different people around that you wouldn’t even think listen to rap, overall it was a great night.

About Me

I am from the city of Groveport, Ohio which is about 15 minutes south of OSU campus. Despite living so close to campus I chose to live in a dorm on campus instead of at my house. I wanted to live in a dorm so that I could get the fullest college experience and so that I could have a home and family away from my normal one. I am currently a Biomedical Engineering major but am considering changing to material science engineering. I selected my major because biology was my absolute favorite class in all of high school. Biology fascinates me just as much as the medical technology there is nowadays. My dad works as a pacemaker technician and growing up I was always interested in pacemakers but could never understand how they worked. I am passionate mostly about people which is why I want to become a biomedical engineer and create regenerative tissue to make organs for the many on the large and ever growing organ transplant list. My friends and family are the ones who support me endlessly and keep my motivated when I’m feeling stressed just as I try to be for them.
