Hicktown – Jason Aldean https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZC_wkIW4U4

I love this song because it so perfectly describes my hometown.  While I enjoy being here at OSU and Columbus can be pretty cool the city life is definitely not for me.  At the beginning of the first semester I missed home a lot and I thought of this song and how I just wanted to go back and be in high school again so the only thing I had to worry about was who is going to be at the football game tonight.  It was nice to get to go home throughout the year and just be able to relax in the little town I call home.  Whenever this song comes on it reminds me of home and that was something I liked while I was trying to adjust to living on campus first semester.

Desperate Measures – Marianas Trench https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTiIAW7qmGU

Baylie invited me to go with her to a Marianas Trench concert that was held at the Newport back in February and we even got to meet the band!  When they started playing Desperate Measures Baylie and I looked at each other and just screamed out of excitement.  This song (and every Marianas Trench song) reminds me of that amazing night I got to spend with my best friend and of all the other amazing nights we’ve had together since we came to OSU.  I love that I got to experience something as new and exciting as my first year of college with my best friend by my side.

Drag Me Down – One Direction https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jwgf3wmiA04

Baylie and I had the honor of attending One Direction’s 2015 On The Road Again Tour right here at Ohio Stadium back in August.  Columbus was the first stop on the second leg of the tour we were the first to hear Drag Me Down live… it was glorious.  There are a lot of ups and downs associated with college.  You get to independent for the first time but that also means you have to make a lot of decisions by yourself and that can be a lot of pressure.  Chemistry isn’t as easy as you thought it would be and you have to learn to accept the fact that you might have to take a C on your transcript but it’s not the end of the world.  You fail your first class ever but you pick yourself up off the ground, dust yourself off and let it be a learning experience.  It was devastating when Zayn left the band but the boys didn’t let it drag them down and if they can get through that then I can tell myself that I will survive chem and won’t let that one bad midterm “drag me down.”

I Wanna Talk About Me – Toby Keith https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxUuDPNbkJk

I am never really one to initiate conversations with strangers but I had to get used to that when college started.  There have been times when I was just praying that someone else was dying to start talking so the attention could be focused elsewhere.   Starting at orientation every time I was in a new place I had to tell all the new people about me.  I have heard “what’s your name, major, hometown” too many times to count.  I dreaded having to strike up a conversation with new people but I’ve had to talk about me so much with fellow students and professors that it doesn’t really phase me any more.

The Lazy Song – Bruno Mars https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLexgOxsZu0

There have been many many many days I did not want to get out of bed and go to class.  I just wished I could be like Bruno Mars in this song and just lounge around the whole day watching TV  and eating my favorite snacks.  Sadly I could not do that.  I knew I had responsibilities and while this is a nice song and sounds like the life I want to be living, it is just not realistic.

If You’re Going Through Hell – Rodney Atkins https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXL65Nd_O1o

I can say why I picked this song in one word….  Chemistry.  I freaking hate chemistry more than I’ve ever hated anything.  I just don’t understand it and I don’t like it when I can’t understand something, but it’s required to take as a biology major as well as a premed requirement so I had no way around it.  When though chemistry was literally hell most of the time I just had to keep on moving because I knew eventually it will be over and giving up was not an option.

About Me

I honestly hate having to tell people about myself but it is something I have had to get used to.  The only time I’ve ever had to do this was for scholarships and about every five seconds since I got here.  I didn’t even have to answer that many questions when I got my job because they already knew who I was.  I grew up in a small town and everyone knows you or knows your family or your neighbor, people know you who don’t even know they know you.  Was that too confusing?  Anyway my point is that I never really had to tell people about myself.  In Hocking County there are five elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school so I’ve been going to school with the same people all my life.  My moms family is from Logan too so all my aunts and uncles, my cousins, and of course my mom went to the same school and had a lot of the same teachers.  This was the case for most kids in Logan and a lot of them even had older siblings that went through the schools too, luckily I’m the oldest so I didn’t have to worry about what kind of impression my siblings left.  So pretty much everyone already knew who you were by time you got there, which can be both good and bad.

I like Ohio State and Columbus isn’t bad but if I’m being honest, it’s kind of scary here.  I have spent my whole life in little old hick town Logan, Ohio.  We are in the middle of the hills (literally in the middle of the Hocking Hills) and its the kind of community where we’ve never had to worry about locking our doors, especially when we would live out in BFE where no one would even want to go out that far to steal your stuff.  Now I have to worry about who I talk to and what I say and I can’t leave my room without pepper spray.  The population of Logan, Ohio is 7,146 people, that is smaller than the freshmen class here at Ohio State.  The population of Hocking County is 28,665 people, that’s just over a third of the total population of all students attending OSU.  I love to visit home and the more I go back and forth the more I realize that I don’t want to grow up and live in a big town, I don’t want to raise my kids in fear, I would much rather live somewhere like Logan where I know I can trust the community.

On a happier note, during my time here at Ohio State I will be studying biology with a focus on pre-med for my undergrad and I will hopefully be accepted to attend medical school here as well.  I have lived in Ohio all my life so naturally I am a Buckeye at heart even though my mom tried so hard to get me to cheer for that team up north.  It kills her on the inside when she visits and has to hear about the National Champion Buckeyes all day, but I love it.  Back home I have my parents, my younger brother, and my dog who patiently wait for the next time I come to visit.  Cody and I are seven years apart and while he was all for me leaving before so he could have my room, he makes it known that he misses me with the constant phone calls and Facetiming.  He even calls for help on his homework instead of just going to mom or dad.  My puppy’s name is Tyson, he is an all white Boxer with bright blue eyes.  I say he’s my puppy but he is far from it!  He’s almost five and is huge, but he is still my lab dog and is always cuddled up to me (or on me most of the time).

While I am here at Ohio State I have the privilege of being able to room with one of my best friends from school.  I’ve known Baylie since the sixth grade and we’ve been good friends since seventh.  It was a total coincidence that we both chose Ohio State because it was never a top pick for either of us.  Then we just so happened to be selected to be in the same scholars program, after that we decided we might as well apply as roommates together so we at least have one person we know from home to help us through this transition.  It has definitely been helpful having Baylie here and of course we have our issues like any other friends but it’s nothing that we don’t get over within the hour.

My interest in the arts is just about everything.  In middle school I was involved in the advanced art program as well as multiple school choirs and even WLMS (our middle school news show).  In high school I continued with art classes and TV2 (our high school news show) but sadly had to drop choir from my schedule.  In order to still be involved with music I participated in the school musicals where I also got in some acting experience.  My high school has an excellent marching band and I always wanted to be a part of it but my mom never let me join.  Every chance I get I am out there supporting the Marching Chieftains, whether it be at the parades, halftime shows, or contests you better believe  I will be there cheering on my friends and family.

I guess that’s wraps up the most important things people should know about me, though I’m sure I’ve left something out but like I said I don’t really enjoy talking about myself anyway.

Photo Partner Project

This is MacKenzie and, even though I haven’t been able to spend a lot of time with her, I can see that she is a very friendly person. MacKenzie studies neuro science, how cool is that? This definitely says a lot about her personality and I think that it says that she is the kind of person who wants to help people in the future and will do anything to figure out how an amazing organ like the brain works. I find this amazing and definitely give her props because that can not be easy. That’s the thing, it’s not easy and this brings out a side of her personality that not everyone sees on a daily basis. She is the kind of person who takes school seriously and sometimes gets pretty stressed out when it comes to studying for exams. If it is in the middle of exam week MacKenzie may seem a tad bit intimidating, she is just trying to deal with studying and her hectic schedule like all of us. MacKenzie reminds be a lot of myself with these specific personality traits. But under all that is a very sweet and laid back girl who will try to be friends with anyone. I chose this picture to represent MacKenzie’s personality because it makes her look like she is enjoying being here and through that smile we can see what a sweet girl she really is. This is a spot that she really loves to visit and she thinks the chairs are pretty cool. MacKenzie is showing us through this picture that you should go to your stop and still find a way to show your true self even in the middle of stress filled exam week.
