First Semester at OSU

My first semester at OSU has changed many parts of my life. I have learned so much, have met so many great friends, and encountered people I will remember forever. This first semester has taught me so much about learning and how different it is from high school. The things I have learned from my first semester have changed my outlook on life more than my high school classes ever did. I hope that this trend continues. My first semester has made me love OSU even more. It has made so excited for learning more, going to different classes for things I’ve never heard of, and broadening my outlook on life.

Where am I from?

Where am I from? I am from Maumee, Ohio where we go to grocery stores on Friday nights for fun. Where I am from, we don’t even bother saying “I’m from Maumee, Ohio”, we say Toledo instead. Where I’m from there’s not much to do, but if you look hard enough you can find the right people that make it not seem like such a boring place. My family’s not big, and most of them don’t even live in Toledo. But the family that is there surround you with their comforting hugs and warm laughs. I grew up in an environment where almost everyone I knew complained about how terrible and boring Toledo was. Having people around me tell me how much they wanted to leave Toledo kind of reinforced those ideas into my ideology. This really shaped how I made decisions for my future. I didn’t even want to consider going to college in Ohio when I started high school. Obviously now, things have changed. I may not like my hometown, but I have learned through growing up there that all you have to do is be surrounded by people who love you and support you, and anywhere can be fun.

My First Week At OSU

My first week at Ohio State was a whirlwind of emotions and activities. Ohio State does a really good job of taking care of you as soon as you get here. My first few days here I received a seemingly endless amount of resources to help me, and met so many mentors, RA’s, and just people who I could ask questions. The first few days it all seemed a little overwhelming, especially the number of people on campus. It almost felt like there was too many people to be friends with and to meet. The first two days here were defiantly the hardest, but after classes started everything began to feel more structured. After I had a definite schedule and my room was all completely set up, it started to feel more like home in a way. Overall, I would say my first week started overwhelming, which is something I expected. Though, by the end of the week I felt more at home and met some amazing people on the way.
There is so many things I am excited about for this school year at Ohio State. I am excited to be totally immersed in my field and study even deeper into my major. The amount of people here may have seemed overwhelming at first, but now I am excited to meet even more people in the future. I also really enjoy having the humanities program to introduce me to more people and even ideas. I think the program is what I am most excited for this year. The Humanities program gives you so many opportunities and people to meet, I expect to end the year having learned so much more about the world.
