This was the first time I got to meet some of the members of my ACES scholars cohort in person! We were able to sit together to eat some Halloween Candy and paint pumpkins. This was a great experience because I had not yet had the chance to meet many of my fellow ACES. This event also helped to get more engaged and feel more social on campus.
Mentorship program
I finally got the chance to meet my ACES mentor during our mentorship scavenger hunt! Meeting my mentor was a great experience because it gave me the chance to get to know another student during the difficult time of the pandemic. It was also great to know that I have someone to help me out that has had some similar experiences as an Ohio State student.
Service Engagement
Service Engagement: In the scholars group I am a part of (ACES), there are always many service projects to learn about and be a part of. One thing I have gotten to be a part of was a service write night. I used the website “Letters to Strangers” which is a platform where you can share supportive notes and stories for others to have. I am excited to get to do more service events and hopefully work in the ACES food pantry soon.
Global Awareness
Global Awareness: During my time at OSU I hope to be able to study abroad. I would like to study abroad in a Spanish speaking country in order to practice the Spanish skills that I already have. I have not yet traveled abroad but I think it would be a really great experience to have. I think it would also be a great opportunity to learn about psychological differences between different cultures and environments. This would also help me achieve my goal of better global awareness.
About Me
Hi, my name is Payton Harvey and I am an aspiring first year at The Ohio State University. I am a part of the ACES scholars community because I have a strong passion for serving and volunteering my time with my community and other communities around me. I am a psychology major and hope to pick up a studio art minor soon. I chose psychology as a major because nothing interests me more than the innerworkings of the complex human mind and I hope to use my psychology education to someday become a licensed art therapist. Art therapy is a combination of my greatest passions: art, the human mind, and serving others. Some other things to know about me are that I love reading, running, and being outdoors. In high school I participated in clubs and sports that I really enjoyed. I worked at a local food pantry, joined the art club, ran cross country and track and field and also did cheerleading. Many of these activities still interest me and during my time at The Ohio State University I hope to join clubs like the running club, art clubs, and mental health awareness clubs. I am also excited to devote more time to community service with my scholars cohort.
