About Me

My name is Hayden Hartman. Currently, I am pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at the Ohio State University. Additionally, I am a part of the Humanitarian Engineering Scholars (HES). As a member of HES, I hope to find practical ways to serve the underprivileged using the skills I learn as an engineer.

Moving to the Ohio State University has been a tremendous change in my life. At Troy Christian High School, I received the Honda-OSU Math Medal Award for Excellence in Mathematics (given to a top math student in the senior class). Also, I earned my professional certification in Solidworks drafting. Additionally, I was Chaplain of NHS, a vocal leader of the Worship team, member of the engineering and design class, and the captain and starting quarterback of the varsity football team. These experiences developed my leadership skills and character, and I hope to apply and improve both at the Ohio State University.

So, here at the Ohio State University, I plan to get involved in many ways beyond mechanical engineering and HES. I have already joined H2O Church, connecting me to even more opportunities that serve the community. In the next year or two, I expect to join the Eco-Car team, which modifies a Camaro to be more fuel efficient. I also plan to ref intramural games and participate in intramurals myself. Overall, I hope to find a healthy balance of life that will promote well-rounded success, and I will report that progress through this E-portfolio.

MY STRENGTHS:

  1. Focus: This strength really fits me well because I am very determined to stay focused on the task at hand, and I often keep the group on-task. I get frustrated in a situation where there is a lack of focus because I know things aren’t getting done as efficiently as possible.
  2. Achiever: If there is a goal to reach, I will do everything I can to reach that goal in any aspect of life. When I am doing anything, knowing what I can achieve by completing the task is a huge motivator for me.
  3. Analytical: This strength fits me very well because I am a very logical, step-by-step thinker, and I’m always trying to make processes more efficient. Rarely do I do anything without thinking through the good and bad consequences of that decision.
  4. Deliberative: All three of my first strengths fit into this one. If my team is struggling to come to a decision, it is a distraction and hindrance to achieving the goal we want to a accomplish. So, I think through each side of a problem or argument analytically and try to come to a quick and effective solution that every side can at least settle with.
  5. Learner: I am rarely ever satisfied with the knowledge that I have, and I am always seeking to gain more wisdom and knowledge. I enjoy learning about new, innovative processes and I will go through the extra work to better understand the world around me.
