About Me

My name is Matthew Hartel and I will be starting my first semester at The Ohio State University this fall (2018).  My intended major is Data Analytics. I want to use my degree to either help professional sports teams make decisions based on player statistics or present sports data in a unique way. I have loved sports since I could walk, therefore it’s fitting that my career aspirations involve the sports industry. I am from Columbus and have always been an OSU sports fan.

I am a member of the Dunn Sport and Wellness Scholars program (DSWS). DSWS appears to be a perfect match for me and I look forward to all it has to offer! Throughout high school I tried to maintain a healthy lifestyle and I want to continue to do this in college. I intend to play intramural sports and join a student organization involved in service.

In high school I ran cross country and track and played basketball with friends. I was also involved in the Saint Joseph of Arimathea Society (SJAS). As a member of SJAS, I served as a pallbearer for individuals who lacked family or were facing other unfortunate circumstances. Additionally This past year I attained the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Boy Scouts. I love camping and spending time in the outdoors- I can’t wait to relax on the oval .

I am excited to make the most of my first year at Ohio State and I look forward to expanding my knowledge of my intended field of study.
