This girl is called La Doncella, or The Maiden, found perfectly preserved atop the Llullaillaco mountains in Argentina along with two other children. They were drugged with coca leaves and rice wine, led to the top of the mountain, and sacrificed to the gods by succumbing to the cold in their sleep.
Human sacrifice was a major part of Inca tradition. Many people were sacrificed to the gods, believed to reside at the top of the Andes mountains that overlooked the valleys. The victims were mostly children, aged from as young as 6 to as old as 15. There have been thousands of mummies found throughout the entirety of the Inca Empire. Most were not intentionally mummified, but were the result of the freezing climate at the high atmosphere and the dry air that prevented decomposition.
The body of the little boy who was found alongside La Doncella. He, along with another little girl, was sacrificed to the gods atop the peaks of Llullaillaco. Unfortunately it seems that this little boy was aware of his fate, as vomit and diarrhea were found on his body suggesting that he died while experiencing high levels of stress. He was also the only child tightly bound with rope, leading scientists to believe he fought in vain for his life.
