In the beginning…

A bit about me:

My journey to nursing was not a straightforward one. I love science and biology, and nature and ecology. My undergraduate degree is a Bachelors degree in Environmental Geology from the University of Dayton. A few years working and I decided it wasn’t the career I desired and it was back to school for me. I completed the accelerated BSN program from University of Michigan. I was able to get my first job where I completed my critical care internship which is on the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCTU). I am proud to say that I was the first new graduate they had taken. The nurses and families there left a life-long impression on my nursing soul. U of M is an absolutely amazing place to work. I would do it again in a heartbeat. From Michigan, life lead me to Ohio where I spent some time in adult critical care and step down cardiac care. Alas, a family with three children made working inpatient care very challenging and I took time off from nursing. Now that my children are older, I find myself called back to nursing and I am hoping to find an avenue that allows me to be closer to my children and their academic schedules. I have found school nursing to be a great melding of two interests of mine – public health and pediatrics. The work is student, family and community centered which makes it a very exciting and comfortable place for me at this time.

In the posts that follow you will find samples of work completed throughout this School Nurse education program. There is evidence of teaching teachers, educating students, and having a grasp of the integral role a School Nurse plays within their community.
