Artifact 2

absence-excuse-form2

This artifact serves as a representation of my few weeks dealing with pneumonia. Being sick is something I am used to dealing with, however, this was the first time I missed a significant amount of class in college, as well as time which I would normally have used to study. I was home for most of the time, which was spent sleeping and coughing. I learned how to contact and work with professors in situations like this, experience that I most definitely will be required to utilize in the future. I also learned that I am not quick to admit that I need to take care of myself more, and now I am better at paying attention to my health-related habits and my body.

Artifact 1

This is a Bach fugue that I re-arranged as a piece of computer music. This represents my experience applying this piece to be a part of the Fuse Factory 2016 exhibit. It was a very informative process, in particular because I was required to submit a CV (curriculum vitae) along with my work. Relatively uncommon to the vast majority of the professional United States, I became acquainted with why it is special, and also with the difference between a generic CV, which in the US is most often used to apply for graduate school, and an artistic CV. And so I, a first year undergraduate with only high school experiences, and with no works that ever were in an exhibition anywhere, was challenged to cobble something together that I could only hope looked reasonable. Another portion of the application was to write about how the piece reflects the theme of the exhibition. This allowed me to dig up the headspace I was in when creating the work, and I found different things about it this time. Because it is both a piece that lends to a semiotic interpretation, and a piece that lends itself to merely be felt (as opposed to understood), I found both new feelings and symbols inherent in the piece.

I learned quite a bit about Curriculum Vitae; knowledge that will be useful to me in the future in both endeavors such as this and in applying to graduate school. I also grew an appreciation for revisiting past work and analyzing it for the benefit of future work. In the future I am hoping that I keep creating what further intrigues me.

About Me

I came to college to study Engineering Physics. I am intensely interested in music and hope to conduct graduate studies relating to music and technology when I finish school. I am also here to serve a new community, and to get better at being a servant of my community. As an eagle scout, I look upon my civic duties and moral connection to every other human being with seriousness. While at Ohio State I will be involved with the Mount Scholars, Buck-I-Serv, Powerlifting Club, and some other clubs.
