My G. O. A. L. S.

Global Awareness

In today’s day and age having an understanding of the global climate in terms of politics, human rights, economics, environment, and beyond is paramount to becoming, as my history teacher used to say, a “Global-Jury-Ready Citizen”. All of these factors come together to create a well-rounded understanding of the world and how to conduct oneself within it. To achieve this, Ohio State’s campus offers many clubs that aim to be socially aware and engage in philanthropy to assist those in need. In addition, many diverse classes are offered that can educate students on world views they may not have known about otherwise.

Original Inquiry

As I understand it, Original Inquiry is intended to be representative of achievements that students make outside of the classroom in a variety of fields, including but not limited to research, creativity, and advanced coursework. I am currently too young to participate in research studies through the REP program, but I plan on doing it as soon as I am 18. I’ve always wanted to be able to play a part in the furtherment of research, but have not had the opportunity to do so until now. I also play the trombone, and I plan on organizing opportunities for students to play even if they cannot participate in any on-campus ensembles.

Academic Enrichment

I am very familiar with academic enrichment within a classroom setting, as I’m sure every honors student is. My goal is to explore classes and learning opportunities that may be outside my major, Chemistry. Even though getting through the required classes as efficiently as possible is a goal of mine, I do not want to graduate without having explored other fields. For all I know, chemistry may not be the best field for me as compared to another major that I don’t even know about yet.

Leadership Development

To me, a leader is someone who people look up to even in the absence of a defined leadership position or incentive. If someone is only obeyed under the threat of punishment or because they have a title, they aren’t truly a leader. On the flip side, if a person is respected and looked up to in everyday circumstances, but does not have a title, they are more of a leader than the person who must threaten their subordinates to attain anything. Given this understanding of what leadership is, the opportunities to achieve it are greatly increased. A person can become a leader in virtually any scenario if they behave in a way that makes people respect them. I aspire to develop my abilities in this area by starting small: offering my help to other students in my classes, organizing study groups, and

Service Engagement

One of the perks of going to such a large school is the extensive opportunities available to students in order to make a difference in the world. The collective change that can be made by such a large group of students all engaging in such a meaningful activity is far greater than most universities. Despite not pursuing any service opportunities yet, I still know of many that I plan on engaging in during my college career, including BuckeyeThon and tutoring for local schools.
